Hideo Kojima, iconic game designer and creator of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, in one of the latest episodes of his radio show, said that he has no plans to release DLC for the game after its release, which will take place on June 26. According to him, episodic additions are “yesterday’s news,” and the studio is aiming for a full release without regard to subsequent content expansion.
However, this does not mean that the game will not evolve. Kojima confirmed that regular updates are planned, aimed at fixing bugs and improving the user experience. Moreover, he hinted that the team may create something completely new, which was not even in the first part, but emphasized that at the moment, there are no specific plans for additional content.
An interesting detail from behind the scenes of the development was the hair growth system of the main characte,r Sam, played by Norman Reedus. Initially, it was planned that as the game progressed, the character would grow a beard and hair, and players would be able to cut, dye, and customize their appearance. However, the idea was abandoned, since interfering with the image of a real actor could destroy the integrity of the character. According to Kojima, the possibility of making Sam blond or red-haired looked too eccentric: "This is Norman Reedus, not just an avatar."
Hideo also noted that so many applications were submitted to participate in the game via 3D scanning that half of the fans had to be turned away - there were too many people who wanted to participate.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to release on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
