Dying Light: The Beast developers consider the game as a full-fledged third part, and not "a separate and large DLC

Polish studio Techland, having held a very detailed and rich demonstration of Dying Light: The Beast during the Summer Game Fest 2025, continues to share new details about the project. The latest statement from the game's creators seems to be intended to finally dispel doubts about its status: The Beast is not a side episode, but essentially a full-fledged third part in the series.

In an interview, Timon Smektala, the franchise's creative director, made the team's internal position clear: The Beast has been completely rebooted, and the project itself has been perceived by the studio as Dying Light 3 for several months now. Despite the lack of a number in the title, in terms of scale, ambition, and approach, this is the next big milestone in the series' history.

According to the game director, the team used all the accumulated experience of working on the previous two parts to create "the best game in the series." He emphasized that The Beast is not just a project for fans, but also a full-fledged independent game in the action-survival genre with an open world, designed for more than 20 hours of play.

Originally intended as a companion to Dying Light 2: Stay Human, the game quickly outgrew its scope. With nine weeks to go until launch, Techland plans to actively educate audiences on why The Beast should be seen as the next big release in the series — and this, they say, is just the beginning of a new chapter for the series.

Dying Light: The Beast will be released on August 22, 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
