Just 24 hours after the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, the hacking community reported the first successful hack of the console. Hacker Retr0 discovered a vulnerability that allows using Return-Oriented Programming (ROP) to execute arbitrary code in the early stages of the system boot. In simple terms, he made the console show an image in the corner of the screen.
Retr0 used bits of code that are already in the Switch 2 itself and put them together in a "chain" to trick the console into doing what he wants. So far, it's all very slow - if you try to display the image full screen, the console will start to lag.
It's not a full-fledged hack - you can't install pirated games or mods yet. But ROP is the first step to more serious attacks, including potentially moving into the console's kernel space "brain."
