A modder has added path tracing to the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4.

Modder praydog has released an updated version of the REFramework tool, which allows for full path tracing in Resident Evil 2 remakes.Resident Evil 3and Resident Evil 4.

In Resident Evil 2, path tracing significantly improves the quality of shadows and reflections. Many objects that previously didn't cast shadows now do, and overall lighting is more realistic.

The situation with Resident Evil 3 is more complicated. Comparison shots show the original version of the game looking better. The mod's main issue is the lack of shadows in some scenes. This suggests that the path tracing implementation requires further work, but it's unclear whether the author plans to improve it further.

Resident Evil 4's results are mixed. Some scenes benefit from the new effects, but others exhibit visual artifacts, such as white dots on stone textures.

Users who have already tried the mod recommend not expecting it to work perfectly at this stage, as the project still requires some refinement.
